2018 Manhattan Summer Program, AGES 4-13

In a word, this camp is about MOVEMENT!  We teach wrestling fundamentals along with non-wrestling games.  Dance and Yoga are included each day.  Wrestling groups are created by both age and skill. All activities take place under the careful supervision of Glenn Rodriguez, Jon Burgos, and Wrestling Alumni who are helping to continue the strong legacy of this great sport!  Boys and girls, ages 5-8, and 9-14 are welcome.  Our camp will include:

*Innovative mat games to help build core strength                                                                *Wrestling technique for beginners and experienced wrestlers

*Games and Drills from the USA Youth Wrestling Curriculum                                               *Live wrestling

GAMES

*Outdoor Games in Central Park including Nuke ‘em, Kickball, and Capture the Flag.

*Indoor Games including Dodge Ball, Guardian Pinball, Whales Tails, and Obstacle Courses

BREAKDANCING!

Monday through Thursday, with Corey, aka “Nova” Grimes.  Nova is a professional breakdancer and instructor.

YOGA, Fitness, and Mindful Breaks

  • Yoga with a certified Yoga instructor
  • Mindful Breaks with Glenn Rodriguez (Glenn is certified through the ATCQA)
  • Children’s Speedball Fitness with certified Speedball instructor and International Fitness Guru Joel Matalon, owner of RunHabX (​Joel has been featured in the Daily News, ABC’s Eyewitness News, Rachel Ray Magazine, SportsLife NYC, Martha Stewart Whole Living Body, US News and World Report and Time Out NY)

LOCATION: Our interim location, The Center at West Park, 165 West 86th Street (at Amsterdam Avenue).

DATES (Monday through Friday)  Week 1: June 18th – June 22nd,    Week 2: June 25th – June 29th,    Week 3: July 16th – July 20th,    Week 4: July 23rd – July 27th

TIME:             Monday – Thursday, 9am – 3pm.   Friday, 9am – Noon

COST:            $825 per week.  Multiple weeks and siblings receive a discount.  Scholarships are available.  Contact Glenn Rodriguez with questions.

Glenn Rodriguez is the founder/director of Grapplin’ Gorillas. He has been a school teacher for over 20 years, and holds certifications as a Youth Coach through USA Wrestling, as a Personal Trainer, and through the American Tai Chi Qigong Association.

 

 


REGISTRATION

How to register:

  1. Pay through PayPal (below) or with a check made out to Grapplin’ Gorillas.  (Sibling and multiple-week discounts, plus scholarships, are available).

  2. Email or send this Registration Form 2018 Camp Reg Form 4-13.

  3. Email or send one of the following:

    1. Health Records for each child from your Doctor for camp, or

    2. This Grapplin’ Gorillas Summer Health Form.  Each child must have a current health form completed by the wrestler’s physician and returned to Glenn Rodriguez in person, through the Postal Service, or through email.  The health forms must be completed within twelve months of the closing day of camp. The completed health form must include specific dates of inoculations. We do not allow participation without a completed health form. If you are not sending the form that was completed for the school year, please have your physician complete the Grapplin’ Gorillas Summer Health Form.
